you have been infected by a virus , so run a anti virus check first

The best one is avast available in the following link for free

www.avast.com once you downloaded it and installed it will run a pre boot scan there it will detect the virus and delete then it will enter in to the o.s.

the simple one is solo anti virus which is also free

It should be fine to use, A safe product that I use all the time is: RegSeeker : http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm. Though it is always a good idea to backup your registry before hand via system restore. It gives you the choice to backup what it deletes, though I don’t recommend backing up from the program like that for it can cause conflicts.

@S.H.Rooms

that answer was annoyingly simple, and i should definitely have thought of that before posting such a stupid question. thanks!
just to let you know, im trying to modify the registry in a couple fields (too lazy to post them all) so that my pirated copy of windows xp home will be activated. the .reg file came from my friend in college who claims that a bunch of students and teachers use it at his university to learn how to work with windows xp.

Perhaps posting the registry entry would help

If all else fails, create a registry patch file (.reg) , place the file in your ‘Startup’ folder, so that the changes will take effect every time windows starts, and you won’t be forced to going into regedit every time to modify.
