thats how you do it if your not going to use it anymore, of course you could just go into your programs menu and delete the program.

u should kill or terminate the ‘hijacking’ process(es) first and then restore settings (ie. deleting the reg value). get Norton Antivirus or something which can remove the threat if u can’t do it manually. use ‘msconfig’ or boot in Safe Mode if u want the process not to be loaded in memory so u can clean up (maybe it’s invoked in My Computer\ HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\ Software\ Microsoft\ Windows\ CurrentVersion\ Run)

It should be fine to use, A safe product that I use all the time is: RegSeeker : http://www.hoverdesk.net/freeware.htm. Though it is always a good idea to backup your registry before hand via system restore. It gives you the choice to backup what it deletes, though I don’t recommend backing up from the program like that for it can cause conflicts.

Outside of that it should be safe.

just to let you know, im trying to modify the registry in a couple fields (too lazy to post them all) so that my pirated copy of windows xp home will be activated. the .reg file came from my friend in college who claims that a bunch of students and teachers use it at his university to learn how to work with windows xp.

Perhaps posting the registry entry would help

If all else fails, create a registry patch file (.reg) , place the file in your ‘Startup’ folder, so that the changes will take effect every time windows starts, and you won’t be forced to going into regedit every time to modify.
