You didn't mention that in your question so that's the first thing I would do. If you did uninstall and you are still being required to register, then the answers above are your best solution. You just asked the million dollar question. Each vendor does it differently. But the bottom line is that the data is encrypted and a normal person can't find it. Like the XP Product Key is in the registry and it is encrypted. But some one figured out how to un-encrypt it. Maybe somebody one day will figure out an answer to your question.
