No need to wipe clean just yet !

Unless your laptop is truly modular (not many are), changing the processor is impossible.

As far as RAM memory is concerned, go for 4 GB (the laptop will be able to use 3.3 GB if your OS is 32 bit and all of it if it is 64 bit) and have it installed by an expert (too many things can go wrong in the cramped space the memory chips are seated in a portable).

Do not use more than one Antivirus, Firewall, cleaner and Anti spyware/Malware. Here are my suggestions for good ones you can use ( at least according to me :) )

For AV and wall, we have the FREE Comodo Internet Security, a good Firewall/Antivirus combo @ http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ Take the one on the left (the free version) *This is the one I use and it is good*

The Java Runtime Environment can cause issues, you should use a free program I use myself called JavaRa to get the latest version of the JRE and then remove all possible older versions of this program. This will ensure that the security of your computer is enhanced and extra space on your hard disk is created. Find more information here: http://raproducts.org/javara.html and the download link on this page: http://raproducts.org/

Flush every single possible accumulated junk (cookies, cache and what nots) in ALL your browsers. As you browse the web, browsers stores information about the websites you visit. You may have to delete that information if your computer or some of the programs are slow (like in your case). Here are two methods for the two most popular browsers (IE 7 and Firefox 3):

Method One (now):

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Delete Browsing History and in the box, click the Delete all button (bottom left) and Yes.

In Firefox, go to tools, clear private data, make sure all boxes are checked and then click on the clear private data now button.

Method Two (in the future - about every week):

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then click Delete Browsing History and in the box that opens, do the following steps (in order)
1) click the button near Temporary Internet Files, click Yes and wait for the box that opens to close.
2) click the button near History, click Yes and wait for the box that opens to close.
Finally, click the close button (bottom right) to finish.

In Firefox, Go to tools, clear private data and uncheck all except Browsing History, Cache and Authenticated Sessions boxes and then click on the clear private data now button.

Note: You should close your browser ( This is good for Internet Explorer and Firefox ) when you're done to clear cookies that are still in memory from your current browsing session.

For older versions of these or other browsers, check the help files for the way to do it.

Get rid of Ccleaner ( In my long time of helping others, I have found it more destructive than helpful ).

Install a cleaner called Glary ( http://www.glaryutilities.com/gu.html ) and Antispyware/Antimalware Spybot ( http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10861988 ) and use them in "safe mode" then get back in normal mode and, as a final touch, defragment your drive with your choice of defragmenter (built-in, freeware or open source).

( A word of caution, with programs this powerful, be sure to read all instructions and help files twice so that you can fix it once ! )

So here we have it, I hope this will help guide you to a faster machine

******* After that, if it is still slow, do a reformat/clean installation *******

Good luck

Cheers

<b>I'm wiping my hard drive clean and starting over: Plz, step-by-step instructions?</b><br>Hi,

Thanks for checking in. Feel free to suggest as little or as much to the following as you wish.

I have a laptop-----AMD Turion 64, 80 GB hard drive, and 1024 MB of memory. I recently downloaded several security software to clean up all the infections I had, and they did just that (a few viruses, but mostly adware & cookies). Now, though, my machine runs more slowly than before, and I learned that I had too many programs which conflicted with each other. I have uninstalled all the conflicting programs, and used "CC cleaner" to clean all registry files, etc. but it still runs slowly. Starting over and wiping my hard drive clean seems to be the way to go based on the following response I got here at this forum:

"Every time you add anything to your computer it will slow it down. Uninstalling a program does not help, as it still leaves traces in places like your registry. Your best bet is to save your documents and unreplaceable files, wipe the hard drive, and start over. Get a good backup program, set your system up to a great setting (install all drivers/programs/documents/etc you want), and do a full system backup. Then you always have a good starting point....I used to use Norton Ghost, I could reset my system in 7 mins back to a config with no malware, no excess garbage, nothing....just a pure clean system."

I can save my files, but then I'm lost as to how to proceed. How do I "wipe the hard drive clean" and re-install the back-up discs I created when I first bought my laptop? Could someone please give me step-by-step instructions or tell me where to get them?

Also, once I've done that, he mentions getting a good back-up system like Norton Ghost. I also need a tutorial for this, but I assume that it comes with the software? (If there's a good free program available online, please let me know.)

One last thing: people have recommended that I upgrade my RAM to 2 or 3 GB as well as my processor. Thing is, I don't have a lot of files (movies, games) or do lots of multitasking---and my speed was okay (though not great) before I used all the security software. BUT, if I'm going to do anything, it seems that upgrading memory is the easiest/least expensive while upgrading the processor would be expensive. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

It takes some routine maintenance to keep any computer system running at its best. Note that unless noted otherwise, every piece of software mentioned here can be downloaded for free from http://www.download.com.

The free version of AVG Anti-Virus is lighter on system resources than many anti-virus utilities and also provides real-time spyware protection and E-mail scanning. It lacks some customization features of other similar applications but is a solid defender and updates frequently.

If you think you might have spyware on your system, keep at least two of the following on your system: Spyware Terminator, Ad-Aware Anniversary Edition (just released yesterday), Spybot: Search & Destroy, and Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware. Spyware Terminator has a real-time component that should be disabled if you use another anti-virus program. Spybot guides you through an easy setup wizard the first time it is run, but do NOT turn on TeaTimer if you are not a power user.

The free ZoneAlarm firewall is another great source of protection. You might also want to consider Comodo Firewall Pro, although it sometimes pops up too many alerts.

Fragmentation on the hard disk can cause many different performance issues. Before tackling it, though, you need to clean your hard disk of unnecessary files.

A great way to remove unneeded programs is to use the free Revo Uninstaller, which is much better at removing software than the Add/Remove Programs applet. When run, Revo first executes the program's built-in uninstaller. Once it finishes, Revo then scours the hard drive for registry entries and leftover files and can clean all of them up in just a few mouse clicks. Don't tamper with it unless you're a power user, however; the default Moderate uninstallation routine is very safe and does a great job.

You can also control the amount of space that WIndows reserves for both System Restore and the Recycle Bin For the Recycle Bin, just right-click on it and choose Properties; you'll see options for setting the percentage of space used for every hard disk on your system. Just click and drag the slider. Or, in the case of multiple drives, you can customize the amount of space reserved for each volume by marking "Configure drives independently" and then selecting from the tabs at the top of the window. To customize System Restore, right-click My Computer, choose Properties, and go to the System Restore tab in the box that appears. Select the volume whose settings you want to change, then click Settings and move the slider. By default, Windows usually devotes far too much space to both of these utilities. I also recommend downloading and installing CCleaner to scour your hard drive for unnecessary files. Also use Windows' built-in Disk Cleanup utility to delete unnecessary files, compress the least-used files, and delete old restore points. Remember: You can manually create a restore point once you've cleaned up your hard disk and then delete every previous restore point except the one you created by going into Disk Cleanup and clicking the More Options tab.

Now you can defragment the hard drive, which rearranges the files on your hard disk so that they are more or less continuous. Try Auslogics Disk Defrag or, for total control over file placement on your drive, try the free version of Ultimate Disk Defrag. Be sure to read the PDF manual included as Ultimate Disk Defrag is a complex and very effective defragmenter. You can also defragment the Registry and system files that cannot be defragmented from within Windows by using Page Defrag, which is found here: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb897426.aspx . Run Auslogics Disk Defrag every couple of weeks for optimum performance, but always clean up the drive BEFORE defragmenting it.

I have read that Registry cleaners are not all that effective and can actually harm your system if not wielded carefully. But one of the safest is TweakNow RegCleaner Std, which will not delete anything from the Registry that is not deemed fully safe.

I hope this helps. If you need additional computer assistance, please consider supporting me on-line at http://www.supportspace.com/support/expert/The_PC_Ally or visiting my blog on MySpace at http://www.myspace.com/the_pc_ally ,<br><b>References : </b><br>

There is many things you can do, whether you want to purchase more RAM would do the most. (more the merrier) Another thing you can do is goto Start/Run and then type"msconfig" Startup tab- you can go to google and look and see what you can turn off and what you cannot. They do not uninstall the program just shut them down during startup so it will boot faster and run a bit faster in general.
******* YOU NEED TO RUN A VIRUS PROTECTION SOFTWARE*********
I run 2 free programs that do not seem to slow you down as much as Norton or Mcafee. "AVG" and "Spybot search and Destroy"
Good Luck

You have shown that you care. Most will not "get it", but that is OK.

You tried.

Now go out and tell the Story. And continue being creative, and real...and passionate about it.

There will be a few who hear, and understand, and will be transformed and renewed. Like yourself...<br><b>References : </b><br>

They took your child because you were helpless. Is your God also helpless. Couldnt He give health without sacrificing His child. A God which is unable to save His own child cannot be expected to save the world.

I think that it is a beautiful story. Mankind is between to forces of power. It is Ironic that the number of one must become the number of two before if it is to become many. When we first come into life we come into it as one being...Then we begin to divide and multiply our cells until we die. Sometimes I like to think that is how this Universe is as well. After all, are we not all created in the Image of God? But where did God obtain that Image? Is it good, or is it evil? And no matter how you answer that question, isn't God going to destroy the people of this world who oppose him? In the course of events that have taken place in the past two thousand years, how can any of us know what is really the truth?

People have no way of answering these questions. That is why we sin. God wants to destroy a bad crop, sometimes though, the bad crops don't want to be destroyed. So what do we do? We take every single advantage we can to survive. And in the end, one becomes two while two remain as one.<br><b>References : </b><br>
