What are the best anti virus, anti spyware, internet security and registry cleaners?

February 24th, 2010

at the mo i have avg 8.0 full as my anti virus/security, reg mechanic + reg easy as cleaners and webroot spy sweeper. are there any other essential/good programs i should have

What you have got now is ok.

I would add to the list malwarebytes anti-malware and also NCleaner which is like CCleaner but has more options, i highly recommend it as since ive used it i dont use CCleaner anymore and we all know how good CCleaner is!!

Spyware – id add superantispyware as its a good free program and has a realtime scanner which many free programs dont have, its best to have at least 2 anti-spyware programs, fingers crossed if one program misses something then the other/s will pick it up.

Spywareblaster – Cracking programme, try it out….it does what it says (and free)

Advanced Windows Care is a good all round cleaner aswell (again, its free)

If you add all of these with yor existing software i feel as if you would have a good set of essential programs.

Is buying a registry repair program worthwhile?

February 24th, 2010

I downloaded Uniblue RegistryBooster trail just to see what it was and would do. It says that I have about 700-800 errors. Is getting this program and fixing registry errors worthwhile?

The windows registry is one of the most complex pieces of software ever written. It is the backbone of the operating system and is constantly being updated and repaired by modules such as regsrvr and regsrvr32.
The "errors" reported by these fear mongering utility vendors are for the most part already marked to be ignored and are not errors. In actuality, they may amount to a few hundred Kb of data which takes nano-seconds to process.
Also, why do these "magic" cure-alls make you acknowledge and release them from any responsibility if their product harms your system? Why do you think Microsoft doesn’t approve their use and warns about potential system failure whenever the registry is manually modified? If it where that big of problem why hasn’t Microsoft offered this utility?
It’s your choice. I personally won’t use them for anything other than to review what they find. If there is a real problem, Microsoft’s support website is where I’ll get information on how to deal with it. Check the event viewer for repeating errors if you are having problems. You can search for solutions using the event ID number.

What is a good free registry repair software?

February 24th, 2010

Some say free but then only clean 50 items and say "to continue you must pay".

There are many good ones out there. I use RegScrubXP. You can get it at….

Download RegScrubXP–http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=2048

Safely cleans junk out of the Windows 2000/XP system registry. All changes made to the registry are fully restorable to it’s original condition. You can make an exclusion list of registry entries that RegScrubXP will not display as problems. You can sift through a list of file extensions, company names, run upon startup programs, Internet Explorer history, and uninstall programs to delete what you think is junk.

Another great program I recommend is CleanUp. I run it every time I log off with no problems.

Download CleanUp—http://www.stevengould.org/software/cleanup/

How can you re-set your Pandora Radio 40 hours? I used mine up and I think you woud go to Windows Registry…?

February 21st, 2010

so in windows registry what do u click on that opens the pandora file?? please help… i love pandora and my mom won’t pay money for the full time membership

Hi Mandy,

Take this as offered. Because it’s all over the internet and not difficult to find, I’ll reprint it and give you the link.

BUT Pandora is a free service for the first 40 hours monthly and then they ask that you pay a buck. One dollar. That doesn’t seem outrageous to me and it might be the right thing to do – no I’m not a prude, but I am a businessman and believe that people should be paid for their work. If enough people opt-out of paying you may lose the service, as advertising is in deep trouble right now.

OK, so enough preaching:

MACINTOSH:
* In your Home directory, open Library > Preferences > Macromedia > Flash Player > #SharedObjects
* You’ll find a bunch of directories in here with various randomly generated names like JZK819C3P and H8R1ZK19M, etc – these are basically cookies for Flash Player and if you don’t mind losing other settings elsewhere, you can delete all these folders to reset your Pandora music limit, but if you’d rather preserve other settings and just reset Pandora, read on…
* In the Finder window Search Box, type “pandora” and then select the folder “Macromedia” as your search directory rather than ‘This Mac’
* Delete just these files/folders, they’re usually labeled pandora, pandora.com, and #pandora.com
* Ta da! Your Pandora limit is now reset and you have another 40 hours to listen! Alternatively, you could just pay the $1/month to use Pandora, it’s such a great app it’s worth it.

WINDOWS (XP/Vista/7):
* Navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\#SharedObjects
Replace “USERNAME” with your user name
* Same as above, there will be a bunch of random folder names, you can delete them all, or just the ones containing ‘pandora’ in the name
* Now navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Macromedia\Flash Player\macromedia.com\support\flashplayer\sys
* Find the folder named ‘#pandora.com’ and delete it, or just delete all the files
* Finally, navigate to C:\Documents and Settings\USER\Cookies and delete everything labeled ‘pandora’

Following all these directions, and you’ll be listening to Pandora free of the forty hour limitation again! Enjoy!

Does some of that look familiar? It’s available word for word at the below source, which is easy to find.

Good Luck!

anyone know how registry cleaners work?

February 21st, 2010

I wanted to know how registry cleaners work on a basic level. I found http://www.registrycleanersrated.com thats good but just wanted to know how registry cleaners worked before I download the program. Any tips? Thanks

Basically, every applicaiton takes and registers a really long number in the registry. Think of this as like your home address. If there are entries that do not correspond to proper home addresses or do not have home addresses assocaited with them, then a registry cleaner deletes the entry in the address. This is a very basic overview of how a registry cleaner works.

Can anybody recommend a free registry repair download for xp?

February 21st, 2010

I have run into trouble attempting to upgrade my ad-aware,it didn’t work properly,so I downloaded again and it is worse.I have done a chckdisc,ie right clicked on hdd and used tools to correct any errors.No luck.I tried reinstalling old ad-aware as it is still within licence period and it won’t work either.Now I can’t even access browser,luckily I have Linux on a separate hdd and am using it to make this cry for HELP. Can someone put me out of my misery(without bloodshed please).I realise I will somehow have to reconnect to my browser first but I will use Linux in the meantime.With thanks-G.

Advanced WindowsCare V 2 Personal and WinASO Registry Optimizer – ARE BOTH FREE OF CHARGE AND WORKING GREAT. I have them both on my pc and it totally works for me. Use them and you’ll notice the difference!
