Should I get some type of registry cleaner, if so which one is good and free if possible?
From time to time, I get the ActiveX control error. For example, I have been having Norton problems, and when I trouble shoot it with Norton’s tech support options, the only thing it could be is… "security settings that allow activex controls and Java".

When I search out what to do about ActiveX, I learned the ActiveX control errors, can bog down my PC, cause it to be really slow and cause blue screens, and on and on. So the fix would be a registry cleaner according to what I read.

Does anyone know if this is at all accurate, if so, which registry cleaning software should I use? There are many free options online, the trouble is I don’t know if it’s free/free, or if they scan your PC for problems for free, then want you to buy their software.

    Thank you for advice anyone.

I think they make a difference personally, but there is no reason to buy one of those pc performance things because they do almost nothing you can’t do on your own.
As for the cleaner get ccleaner (not a typo) it does registry and removes excess files that windows is so fond of hanging onto.

to clean or monkee with the registry is tricky at best, and registry cleaner work good, too good in many cases, they will delete things you might need. i would remove nortons through add/remove reboot and reinstall it. active x controls are to help some programs run. java is used to view all kinds of graphics on almost every web page.

i’d say your having a spyware attack on your computer. the easiest way to remove that is by wiping out your hard drive and reinstalling windows.

but if you really want to save your old settings, files etc.. then go for a process scan (programs that run on background) and a registry cleaner, i would suggest UniBlue’s Process Scan and Registry Booster.. UniBlue is a microsoft certified although it costs a few bucks i think its not that bad if you really want to keep your files, this will solve your dilemma.

I had one on my computer a few months ago, and my PC tech blessed me out (not literally.) She said that a registry cleaner will cause more problems than it will fix. If your computer needs fixing, all the software to fix it with is already on your computer (unless it has crashed or something like that of course.) Do you run your disk defragmenter regularly? That may help.
