How can I repair the Winsock registry?

December 1st, 2009 | by admin |

My computer had some issues and when I got it back from the IT department it could no longer get online. It says there is a problem with winsock. I tryed to repair the registry however it still doesn’t work? What is this and what can I do?

You may go through manual steps that might be risky if u r novice >>>

# Go to properties of Local Area Connection
# Click on the Install button in the Properties window
# Choose PROTOCOL, then click on ADD button.
# Click on HAVE DISK button…
# Type in C:\windows\inf\nettcpip.inf in the dialog box and click OK.
# Choose from the list INTERNET PROTOCOL TCP/IP in the list, and click OK.
# Click CLOSE.
# Reboot your computer.(At this point the Winsock is complete however to not only prevent this problem from happening in the future but also to make the process a lot easier you should update Windows.)

However, It would be better way iof you choose a software utility that do this for you automatically.

Winsock XP Fix is a tiny utility whose only purpose is to simply repair Winsock and TCP/IP errors from errors or corruption of the registry, etc. It also makes use of the Freeware ERDNT Registry Backup Program so that you can make a backup copy of the registry before changes are made.

Check out this store for freeware or cheaper version of this product >>> http://www.mdofpc.com/

Call the IT department. Evidently they broke something. (I assume that people in your company are responsible for their actions.)
