Will Registry Great Speed Up Your Pc?

August 29th, 2010 | by admin |

Registry Great is a software program that claims to clean up your registry and speed up your pc. Does it work? Like most rogue anti-spyware programs, it doesn’t do what it claims. Don’t waste your money! Spyware is a threat that you do need to eliminate, but using hoaxes like these won’t work. If you know what spyware is, you know that getting rid of it as soon as possible is essential. This article will explain a little more in detail about what it is and what you need to do if you suspect you are a victim.

For those of you who have never heard of spyware, it is software that installs itself on your computer, usually when you are browsing. You sometimes get it when downloading files from unknown sources as well. If you have it, you will soon know it by some of the symptoms you begin having. Here are a few of the more common problems you will see when your pc is infected:

  1. Become barraged with pop-up ads
  2. Slow computer performance
  3. “Freezing” of windows
  4. New toolbar in your browser that wasn’t there before

Signs like these are very common when you are infected with spyware. Using programs like Registry Great will only add to the problem – so don’t download it! It proposes to clean up threats from your computer, but won’t do a thing – except slow down your computer because of its high CPU usage.

If you decide that you do have spyware, here are a few things it can do – and why you want to get rid of it as soon as possible. It tracks what you do when you are online. The sites you visit, your account passwords, even your personal business information is not safe when you are a victim. Your identity can even be stolen, along with your banking and credit card information. Getting rid of spyware is highly important!

Pop-up ads you begin getting may be related to searches you have performed while online. Don’t ever click on any pop-ups or advertisements that supposedly clean your computer of threats. You are asking for trouble if you do!

What exactly should you do if you decide you have been infected with spyware? Find good, reputable anti-spyware software that is highly recommended and reputable. Rogue programs like Registry Great are to be avoided at all costs, and there are many of them out there. Even when you do find a legitimate software, it often takes purchasing two to three different programs to get the desired results – a clean pc. Most can’t clear all of the infections in one scan, so purchasing additional software is necessary.

To avoid this, there is software that excels above the others, and is guaranteed to work the first time. Spyzooka is regarded as the best anti-spyware product available, and there are no others like it. If you are infected, use only the best available program that has a reputation like no other, Spyzooka. Registry Great? Not so great, don’t use it.

I'm wiping my hard drive clean and starting over: Plz, step-by-step instructions?
    Hi,

Thanks for checking in. Feel free to suggest as little or as much to the following as you wish.

I have a laptop—–AMD Turion 64, 80 GB hard drive, and 1024 MB of memory. I recently downloaded several security software to clean up all the infections I had, and they did just that (a few viruses, but mostly adware & cookies). Now, though, my machine runs more slowly than before, and I learned that I had too many programs which conflicted with each other. I have uninstalled all the conflicting programs, and used "CC cleaner" to clean all registry files, etc. but it still runs slowly. Starting over and wiping my hard drive clean seems to be the way to go based on the following response I got here at this forum:

"Every time you add anything to your computer it will slow it down. Uninstalling a program does not help, as it still leaves traces in places like your registry. Your best bet is to save your documents and unreplaceable files, wipe the hard drive, and start over. Get a good backup program, set your system up to a great setting (install all drivers/programs/documents/etc you want), and do a full system backup. Then you always have a good starting point….I used to use Norton Ghost, I could reset my system in 7 mins back to a config with no malware, no excess garbage, nothing….just a pure clean system."

I can save my files, but then I’m lost as to how to proceed. How do I "wipe the hard drive clean" and re-install the back-up discs I created when I first bought my laptop? Could someone please give me step-by-step instructions or tell me where to get them?

Also, once I’ve done that, he mentions getting a good back-up system like Norton Ghost. I also need a tutorial for this, but I assume that it comes with the software? (If there’s a good free program available online, please let me know.)

One last thing: people have recommended that I upgrade my RAM to 2 or 3 GB as well as my processor. Thing is, I don’t have a lot of files (movies, games) or do lots of multitasking—and my speed was okay (though not great) before I used all the security software. BUT, if I’m going to do anything, it seems that upgrading memory is the easiest/least expensive while upgrading the processor would be expensive. Any advice or suggestions would be appreciated thanks.

No need to wipe clean just yet !

Unless your laptop is truly modular (not many are), changing the processor is impossible.

As far as RAM memory is concerned, go for 4 GB (the laptop will be able to use 3.3 GB if your OS is 32 bit and all of it if it is 64 bit) and have it installed by an expert (too many things can go wrong in the cramped space the memory chips are seated in a portable).

Do not use more than one Antivirus, Firewall, cleaner and Anti spyware/Malware. Here are my suggestions for good ones you can use ( at least according to me :) )

For AV and wall, we have the FREE Comodo Internet Security, a good Firewall/Antivirus combo @ http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/ Take the one on the left (the free version) *This is the one I use and it is good*

The Java Runtime Environment can cause issues, you should use a free program I use myself called JavaRa to get the latest version of the JRE and then remove all possible older versions of this program. This will ensure that the security of your computer is enhanced and extra space on your hard disk is created. Find more information here: http://raproducts.org/javara.html and the download link on this page: http://raproducts.org/

Flush every single possible accumulated junk (cookies, cache and what nots) in ALL your browsers. As you browse the web, browsers stores information about the websites you visit. You may have to delete that information if your computer or some of the programs are slow (like in your case). Here are two methods for the two most popular browsers (IE 7 and Firefox 3):

    Method One (now):

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then Delete Browsing History and in the box, click the Delete all button (bottom left) and Yes.

In Firefox, go to tools, clear private data, make sure all boxes are checked and then click on the clear private data now button.

Method Two (in the future – about every week):

In Internet Explorer, click the Tools menu, then click Delete Browsing History and in the box that opens, do the following steps (in order)
    1) click the button near Temporary Internet Files, click Yes and wait for the box that opens to close.
    2) click the button near History, click Yes and wait for the box that opens to close.
Finally, click the close button (bottom right) to finish.

In Firefox, Go to tools, clear private data and uncheck all except Browsing History, Cache and Authenticated Sessions boxes and then click on the clear private data now button.

Note: You should close your browser ( This is good for Internet Explorer and Firefox ) when you’re done to clear cookies that are still in memory from your current browsing session.

For older versions of these or other browsers, check the help files for the way to do it.

Get rid of Ccleaner ( In my long time of helping others, I have found it more destructive than helpful ).

Install a cleaner called Glary ( http://www.glaryutilities.com/gu.html ) and Antispyware/Antimalware Spybot ( http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=mncol&cdlPid=10861988 ) and use them in "safe mode" then get back in normal mode and, as a final touch, defragment your drive with your choice of defragmenter (built-in, freeware or open source).

( A word of caution, with programs this powerful, be sure to read all instructions and help files twice so that you can fix it once ! )

So here we have it, I hope this will help guide you to a faster machine

******* After that, if it is still slow, do a reformat/clean installation *******

    Good luck

    Cheers
